Gabor Lengyel
Industrial designer and mechanical engineer
German university degrees
Owner and managing director
Former member of the executive team
at frog design, part of Capgemini Invent
Lengyel Design delivers what neither a pure engineer nor a pure businessman can achieve: design quality that is technically realisable and economically viable – whether for an individual object or a global product system. In complex development processes we work at eye level with specialists from engineering, manufacturing and supply chain.
The design foundation of Lengyel Design emerged from engagement with the work of Prof. Stefan Lengyel and the strategic design thinking of Prof. Dr. Hartmut Esslinger HonRDI, founder of frog design, who continues to shape the work of Lengyel Design today as active mentor.
On Prof. Dr. Hartmut Esslinger HonRDI
On Prof. Stefan Lengyel
The design philosophy of Lengyel Design is based on the design approach developed by Prof. Stefan Lengyel. This approach combines design, technology, and business objectives into an integrated development process. Lengyel Design continues to refine this methodology and applies it to current industrial challenges and international markets.
Our work takes effect early in the process – where decisions are still shapeable. We reduce development risks through clear product architectures, accelerate processes through early alignment and create scalable solutions that are technically and economically sound. The result is stable development processes, greater planning reliability and economically viable products.
Selected collaborations with specialists from branding, market research and application-oriented research complement the design and technical core expertise of Lengyel Design.
Dongdao Creative Branding Group – Leading Chinese branding and design agency
Brings international brand perspectives and cultural differentiation, particularly in the Asian market.
Peter Schmidt Group – One of the most successful European branding agencies
Stands for consistent corporate design systems along the entire customer journey.
Fraunhofer-inHaus-Center – Application-oriented research and development center
Enables the validation of new technologies in realistic application scenarios.
Selected projects for Gira, 3M and Haier show how design and technical expertise directly contribute to the success of product developments in an international industrial context.
As a member of the executive team at frog design, now part of Capgemini Invent, Gabor Lengyel led international design and innovation projects for leading industrial and technology brands – with strategic-creative authority over the Heads of Industrial Design and Corporate Design, and as Design Director for frog design / Germany.
He structured complex product developments from the concept phase through to series production and integrated design, engineering and brand strategy into viable product architectures. The project spectrum encompassed technology products, tableware, cookware, sports, medical technology, seating furniture, office technology and workplace design.
Four projects from this period – each taken from initial concept through to series production, with full creative and client responsibility, in interdisciplinary teamwork at frog design:
Performance product
frog design | HEAD
Tennis racket
Integration of performance requirements into brand-differentiating design.
Brand design
frog design | HILTI
Tool case
Brand character as formal principle: robustness and construction craftsmanship translated into product language.
System product
frog design | Rosenthal
Hotel tableware system
Rosenthal's first hotel tableware system designed from scratch – brand identity translated into a scalable product architecture.
MedTech product
frog design | Biedermann
Knee brace
Gabor Lengyel engineered a 15% reduction of the joint mechanism – smaller build volume, full freedom of movement.
